Commercial Tree Lacing

Often times the trees on a commercial property have been neglected and need to be reshaped and laced to provide an aesthetic and healthy look to the trees surrounding a business. The first thing potential clients notice about a business is the condition of the property. Lacing is the process in which a tree is thinned to 20 or 30% of its original thickness in order to let light and air into the canopy and the landscape below the tree. The term tree lacing refers to the look of the tree after trimming. When done correctly this produces a symmetrical opening of the tree leaves and canopy, creating a delicate pattern of light reminiscent of a bridal veil or lace table cloth.

Commercial Tree Tipping & Shaping

Shaping and tipping are very similar to lacing. Shaping is the process in which a rounded natural canopy for the tree is created by cutting back on excessive growth. Tipping includes the same process but as the word implies, only the tips of the smaller branches are removed with a pole pruner in order to gently maintain proper growth and not reduce canopy size with harsh large diameter cuts. When a tree has become unmanageable due to overgrowth, hard cuts with a chainsaw are the only remaining option.

Commercial Tree Topping

Topping is the act of reducing the overall height of a tree by removing the uppermost branches of a tree. This is desirable only if the tree has reached a dangerous height next to a building or traffic area. Typically, topping is an undesirable method of tree pruning because it creates weak new growths that are grow in incongruent directions after severe pruning. These new growths have weak connections to the original trunk and break easily in high winds and wet conditions. This growth also typically ruins the beauty of a mature tree with a thick unsightly appearance and require frequent pruning to prevent branch loss and uneven growth.
